Udupi: Literary conference of children in Kota set in motion

Udupi, Dec 3: “Present education system is reduced only as a practice of getting marks and converting students into machines. We need education that welds human relationships, makes us civilised and gives us a taste of literature,” said Kota Viveka Pre University College student Kavya S Hande.

She was speaking after inaugurating Udupi district children’s literary conference held at Kota Viveka girl’s high school auditorium by Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kota Vidya Sangha and Saligrama Dr K Shivaram Karanath Children’s Literary Forum on Monday, December 3.



“Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Bhajans and Dasakeertanes teach human values. Literature is like a mirror. It helps to straighten up the zigzags in life. Books are our good friends. But efforts are necessary to be a good author, reader or poet. Students have inferiority complex about Kannada. We should stop thinking about our lapses and proceed towards new way,” she said.

Udupi Ambalapady Janardhan Mahakali temple managing trustee Dr N B Vijay Ballal said that guidance is necessary for children to improve their creativity. “The policies of the government have caused neglect of Kannada medium schools,” he said.

Udupi government pre university college student Nichiketh Nayak said that we should proceed with Kannada literature as a part of our life.

“Though Kannada literary tradition is amazing, those who read it have become less due to modern educational system. Though English and Hindi are necessary, local languages such as Kannada should not be left out.”

Kota Viveka girl’s high school headmaster K Jagadish Holla, children’s literary forum professor Upendra Somayaji, Children’s literary time’s Byndoor St Thomas residential school student Dhanush S Pitrodi, essay time’s Goliangadi government PU College’s V S Pradeep and story time’s Kota Vivek girl’s high school student Pratiksha B were present.

Udupi district Kannada literary forum president Neelavar Surendra Adiga gave a key note address. Kundapur V K R Acharya English medium high school student Meghana Prabhu welcomed the gathering. Kambadkone Sandeepani English medium school’s Maithreyi proposed vote of thanks. Chetana Pai compered the programme.

A procession was taken earlier from Kota Hande temple till Viveka. Kota PU College principal Jagadish Navada set the procession in motion.
