Mangaluru, Nov 20: The birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammed is being celebrated today in the form of Milad-un-Nabi or Eid Milad. The Prophet, besides working to bring peace to the society, had also established a government and administrative system.
Prophet had fought against vested interests and had questioned certain deeply embedded traditional beliefs and observations. He also established social justice.
On this occasion, Milad-un-Nabi gatherings are organized where discussions are held about the teachings of the Prophet and his birthday is celebrated. People also hold night-long prayer meetings, marches and processions, Sandal rites over symbolic footprints of the Prophet, decoration with festive banners and buntings etc are arranged. Community feast is also arranged at mosques and other buildings.
Muslims organized prayer meetings and greeted each other on this occasion in the city and elsewhere.
