Jet Airways to discontinue Dubai–Mangaluru direct flight from Dec 5?

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Mangaluru, Nov 15: Jet Airways will discontinue its daily direct flight service in Dubai – Mangaluru route from the first week of December, say some reports.

According to some passengers, who booked December ticket in advance, they have been advised by the airlines about the cancellation of direct flight. Reportedly they have been provided with alternate Dubai- Mumbai–Mangaluru flight service from December 5.

It is not yet confirmed if the opening of Kannur airport from December 9 is the reason to cancel the Mangaluru-Dubai route or the recent developments in Jet Airways which is facing tougher economic conditions.

When contacted, Jet Airways officials said that they are not ready to confirm the news with a short reply, 'We will revert back'.

The second half of December is normally a busy schedule for all airlines, and every year flights are fully- booked from Middle East region on account of Christmas holidays. Many passengers plan their travel at least 3-6 months in advance. If cancellation news is true, then it is going to affect several passengers.

Meantime, other airlines like Air India Express and SpiceJet that are operating daily from Dubai are expected to raise their ticket price during December, duly taking advantage of cancellation of Jet Airways.

As per Jet Airways online portal, it is clear that, from December 5, 2018, bookings are available from Dubai to Mangaluru only via Mumbai.

Similarly, Abu Dhabi– Mangaluru direct flight details also are not seen for bookings online from December 6.

Earlier in the month of November, Jet Airways allowed pilots to quit jobs without notice and later it had also announced various cost-cutting measures.

It may also be recalled that, on November 12 this year, Jet Airways decided to sell 6 Boeing 777 aircraft in a bid to get come out from financial difficulties.

DONT BLINDLY COMMENT ANYTHING...I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMMENTS HERE POSTED WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE...THE MAIN REASON FOR JET AIRWAYS TO STOP THIS SERVICE IS THAT IT IS IN THE VERGE OF MERGING OR SELLING ITS STAKES TO TATA GROUP...DONT BLINDLY PREDICT THE DOWNFALL OF MANGALORE AIRPORT BECAUSE OF OPENING KANNUR AIRPORT....KANNUR IS A VERY SMALL TOWN THAT MAY REQUIRE DECADES TO REACH UPTO MANGALORE LEVEL...CITIES OF KERALA LIKE KOCHI, TRIVANDRUM ARE STRUGGLING TO GET INDUSTRIES AND HOW COULD KANNUR REACH ALEVEL TO BEAT A CITY LIKE MANGALORE AT ONCE...MANGALORE HAS BEEN TO SEVERAL LEAPS AND BOUNDS TO REACH UPTO THIS LEVEL..
IT IS TRUE THAT KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT IS NOT VERY EAGRE TO DEVELOP MANGALORE AIRPORRT..ITS KNOWN TO ALL...SO INSTEAD OF POSTING AGAINST MANGALORE IN WEBSITE HERE WHY CANT EVERYONE URGE AND START A CAMPAIGN TO IMPROVE MANGALORE AIRPORT AND PRESSURIZE GOVERNMENT.
MANGALORE IS A LOCAL ENTREPRENERAL DRIVEN CITY..WE WILL NEVER LET MANGALORE ANYDAY TO DOWN.

All blindly commenting .... Mr. joyson, MANGALURU is the most knowledgeable one .... !!!!!

It looks like Mr. joyson, MANGALURU never traveled in inbound flight from Gulf, 80% of passenger travel thru Mangalore are from Kerallite's , once Kannur airport ....Mangalore airport going to loose this passengers .... that will result in many more flight service cancellation.

If jet airways cancelled only Mangalore trip in merging process .... why not other routes Mr. Genius Joyson

You can dream big and even hope big.
There are many big cities larger than Mangalore and dont have airport. Just think of Mysore, Hubli Dharwad and Belgaum.
Airport is not an absolute necessity.
But Mangalore Bajpe airport is an white elephant and it is absolutely certain it has no scope for improvements for the reasons of disadvantages and critical limitations.

They have even cancelled Abu Dhabi to Mangalore direct flight from 1st December 2018 and the reason given by Mr Sandeep Udupi is 100 % correct. We Mangalorean are busy with communal politics and we have useless MP's MLA's only good at giving speeches. No Unity among Citizens in Coastal Karnataka, people are divided in the name of political parties and Ideology.

Reasons for Jet airways to cancel flights are....

    1. Kannur Airport....
    2. Due to Crisis in Gulf many have lost their jobs in recent time and already relocated to India.
    3. Increasing Fuel Prices, and Cost
    4. In Karnataka Tourism Department is in deep sleep. Only Tamil Nadu & Kerala are attracting foreign tourists largely.
    5. Communal gangs are already spoiled the Mangalore's name in last few years with their notorious acts ( Pub attacks etc)
    6. Useless MP's MLA's only good at giving speeches
    7. No Unity among Citizens in Coastal Karnataka. Even at home people are divided in the name of political parties and Ideology.

Jet always looted people with high price on their stocks. Now with the opening of Kannur airport it goes without saying that no keralites shall fly into M'lore and shall surely opt to land into Kannur, which again falls within the close vicinity to other places of kerala also upto Calicut.

Jet should combine the travel either via Muscat or Doha to accumulate the passengers and operate the aircraft. By doing so, it shall have the credits in the market, though it has been loosing values and money.

Jet Airways is running in a big loss.
Salaries of the staff are not paid or are in arrears.
Jet Airways is doing whatever possible to cut the costs.
I do not blame them. We would have done the same to cut the costs.
Better to be safe than unsafe flying.

Future for Mangalore Bajpe airport doesnt seem promising at all.
The run way length can never be increased or not feasible to say the least for the costs and still it will be a table top runway.
Better, construct a "State of Art" airport on the coastal Mangalore Udupi belt.
Unless this change is done, all other airports will be overtaking Mangalore Bajpe airport.
It is pathetic for its runway and also pathetic for its steep climb to heavens to go to the airport.
We have bus lobby, we have taxi lobby and we also have Bajpe local lobby.

Better to construct an airport in Mulki-Padubidri area since lot of plain land is available there. The air force or coast guard then should take over the present Bajpe airport and make it as their base for a certain amount.

Also this is not a good sign for international tourism to the Mangalore Metropolitan area. International tourists who already spend many hours of layover time in Dubai or Abu Dhabi to reach our area will be less likely to travel here with an additional layover in Mumbai should directs flights be redirected to Kannur.

Following the Kingfisher way ...looks like.

BJP Government doesn't seem to be bothered. They must be happy thinking that by permitting foreign airlines to fly into India is a lucrative business ... . milking the cow type of a strategy. BJP Government was all the time working on the nitty-gritty to close down this airline and is hell bent on bringing back all NRI's back into the country.... forget if the economy is topsy turvy or not and coolly forgetting the fact that it is ENTIRELY due to NRI's remittances that the country functions and the economy is alive. The inner chamchas of the Ministry of Transportation are actively working non-stop to make such a situation a reality. The palms of the Jet Airways higher ups must have been royally greased to arrive to such a conclusion. Who knows they must have been connived ...even with some threats too to come to this stage.

It looks like M'lore - Dubai & M'lore - Auh flights are going to be redeployed to Kannur - Dubai & Kannur - Auh. I suppose, KSRTC needs to deploy more Fly Bus service like to B'lore (like B'lore -Mysore which has 6 service per day) instead of the present single service per day. And with opening of Shiradi ghat with state of the art road, the travel time should reduce to 5-6 hours which is kinda ok.

Nowadays there are lots of flights to different destinations in the world with one stopover from major airports like Bengaluru with layover of 1-2 hours. The major layover is in domestic leg of the journey. Instead of spending of 5- 8 hours at domestic airport, it's better to improve road connectivity with the aim of reducing the travel time taken by road to reach the destination, instead of extending the runway length which is more expensive & not worth the investment.

It is unfortunate that Jet Airways will discontinue Dubai-Mangalore flight. this will be a great inconvenience to passengers who have already booked their flights much in advance. I have travelled many times by Jet Airways and I liked their services in many ways. Just this month, I travelled to New York, from Mangalore to Abu Dhabi and then to JFK (New York) by Ithihad Airlines. I will be returning by the same route in December and I hope Jet Airways from Abu Dhabi to Mangalore will not be affected.
