If we had a Congress MP the situation would have been exactly the opposite. By now larger aircraft wold have been made possible to land in Mangalore and more international flights from Far East and Europe would have been operating by now. The useless BJP MP's have allowed Mangalore airport to rot. At this rate very soon there will be no international flights operating from Mangalore. Our MP is only busy talking cow politics and still learning the meaning of Dollar and cents.

All of us are only assuming and commenting against each other here, none of us has seen tomorrow and we do not know what will happen, but Mangalore airport will still be there and people from Kerala will still be using our airport. may be one or two flights might be removed from the existing schedule in future or there will be a change in schedule but it will not affect much. in fact it should be good for Mangaloreans because the load factor will be shared. only advantage Kannur will be having and that too a huge one will be that non Indian international carriers will operate from there.

3050 meter is equal to 10006.56 feets

It will extended to 4000 meters soon = 13123.36 feets .

Our Mangalore International Airport runway length is 8,038 feet .

Mangalore has no support from center like Kerala
where they managed to make 4 International Airports.

I think finally Kerala only complete our Pumpwell Flyover bridge.

ML airport will have handful of passengers.

There is no scope of extension of runway for larger air crafts.

There is a private taxi mafia ruling the place too.

Reducing fares drastically is the only way for survival of airlines and the Mangalore Air port itself.

Mangalore Airport had been in existence for over 60 years and will remain for years to come. It started with a single flight per day to Mumbai and continued handling domestic flights for more than 50 years. Now the city being an important educational and medical hub in the region and with increasing domestic flights, Mangalore airport can survive without international flights.

You are absolutely right in saying "Mangalore airport can survive without international flights"!!

Yes, the airport started with one flight, and it will go back to one flight very soon, because Kannur has hijacked all international flights already!!

Mangaloreans will be forced to use Kannur, because of this logic too.

I must add, there will be less traffic on the already substandard roads leading to the airport, less pressure on other infrastructure such as hotels etc.

    Jai Hind!!

We need to develop our country such a way that let foreigners use this direct flight facilities come to India, work hard here on H1b visa, apply for green card, let them wait in queues for getting nationality... Earn their salary in Indian rupees,... Let them go back with Indian rupee and let them say he has dream job in India... That should be our country 😁

There is a reason for that - all working age people are outside Kerala. Those who reside in the state are the retired and school/college children. Obviously it required maximum airports to transport their people.

Its obvious that Manglore bound flights will be detoured via Kannur. In that case, if the price is less due to added travel time, I am sure Mangaloreans will be lucky. Well, hereafter Kasargod based passengers, please chose Kannur airport to smuggle gold.
