Kerala nun rape case: Key witness Father Kuriakose Kattuthara found dead

Jalandhar, Oct 22(Agencies): Fr Kuriakose Kattuthara, a key witness in the Kerala nun rape case was on Monday found dead in Jalandhar in Punjab on Monday. Father Kattuthara was a witness in the case against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. He was found dead in St. Mary's Church in Dasuya in Jalandhar.

Father Kuriakose was among the people who had been vocal against Bishop Mulakkal and had also given his statement to the police in connection with the rape case of a nun from Missionaries of Jesus. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

However, the police said that there no injury marks were found on his body. "He used to stay at St Paul's Church in Dasuya. He was found dead there. He was 62. I have been informed that no injuries have been found," DSP Dasuya AR Sharma said adding that the matter will be investigated.

Fr Kuriakose Kattuthara

"It was found that he vomited on the bed. Blood pressure tablets were found at the spot," the DSP said.

The family of the 62-year-old priest has suspected a conspiracy in his death. His brother, Jose Kattuthara, reportedly said that he was killed for giving a statement against Bishop Mulakkal.

The priest had earlier alleged that he was under severe pressure by church officials for backing the nun who had levelled rape allegations against the bishop. "The sisters had approached me complaining about Bishop Franco. They did not approach the Kerala police fearing the bishop. In fact, I fear what will happen to me for speaking out against him," he had said in an interview to Mathrubhumi.

Let’s wait for the autopsy to know if the priest was killed or had natural death. The priest was 62, not too young or too old to have natural death. I don’t think the Bishop would get any benefit from the priest’s death as the police have already taken statement from him before he died. It’s possible he may have been killed by Bishop’s supporters without his knowledge. Crime Patrol will make a good episode on this incident.

Finally, bishop is human, he is man. We know that, the bible is writen by the power of holy spirit. 1 Timothy 3- 2 says, the church leader must be without fault. HE MUST HAVE ONLY ONE WIFE. If we act wiser than God many things will happen. Otherwise they have to be so holy. Really holy peope dont talk about money in the church. Becaue the power of holy spirit is enough for them.

People want to judge others in their way. The truth always remains true. Even God himself won't change it because he is the truth.
Any person can lie, give false witness, and hide from reality. A person can kill the body but not the truth. The day will come and hunt the person, if anyone goes against the truth, Amen.

Things are getting murkier and murkier and looks like an innocent has been done away with to hide the truth. There should be a judicial enquiry and I hope a thorough post mortem will be conducted on the dead priest. If this is proven to be murder then who ever is responsible should be brought to book. The Church should distance itself from both the accused bishop and the victim nuns and instruct the faithful not to influence the outcome of the trial. Let the law of the land take its own course. If the Bishop is innocent he has nothing to fear and if the nuns are victims, they should get justice and their tormentor duly punished.
Like in every religion there are blind followers in Christianity as well, who blindly follow leaders, senselessly quote holy scriptures to hide their ignorance, instead of following God and the truth. They treat religious leaders like Gods and literally worship them and many crooks take advantage of such idiotic and gullible followers and hide under holy robes.

As per the statements by the nun, the gentleman cannot be a witness, let alone a key witness.

The nun herself has said that the bishop would visit the convent and stay at a guest house. And she would visit him there. And that there were no other people at the guest house.

So, media's speculation that this priest was a witness, is just a way to sensationalise the issue.

The nun was called or rather forced to attend to the bishop when he stayed at the guesthouse. Secondly, the priest was not an eyewitness. He was witness in the sense that the nun had approached him to complain about the bishop long before complaining to the police.

This shows the way the church management operates to support the crime and injustice to those sister/nuns who are victims of this Bishop.... Police should do detailed investigation and teach a lesson to those people who support Bishop as GOD....
