Kundapur, Oct 18: Prathima Raghavendra, wife of Raghavendra Joshi who had attempted suicide on October 15 after harassment by money lenders held a press conference at mini conference hall, Kidiyoor.

Addressing media, she said that SI Vasappa Nayak of Gangolli police station harassed her in the police station to register police complaint against the suspects and made her wait in the police station from 3 pm to 10.30 pm. “The SI spoke indecently for my request to take the complaint early as I had to tend to my child. The SI has prepared two different complaints and has erased with whitener the column number under which the case of assault is covered.”

It is said that six men had come to Gangolli police station by car and persuaded Prathima and mother of Raghavendra Joshi to withdraw the case.

“Though a complaint of assault and instigation to suicide is registered against Sujay Shetty, police have still not taken action. The district SP should provide justice to me and take action against those who have indulged in illegal lending of loan applying meter rate of interest,” she urged.

Prathima said that her husband besides indulging in dairy farming, develops rural software and he also has an office. “One office is closed due to financial constraints. He had 60 cows and had dreams of indulging in farming in big way. But as Sujay was harassing him demanding exorbitant rates of interest, he had decided to repay the loan by selling his cows.

Raghavendra Joshi had borrowed Rs 20 lac through Ramakrishna Pai. Sujay was threatening and charging interest at the rate of 60% on the loan. He used to receive Rs one lac every month and more than Rs 30 lac are repaid till now.”

“Sujay had threatened to destroy the family of Raghavendra Joshi if he does not pay Rs 16 lac by October 15. Such threats incited Raghavendra to attempt suicide,” said Prathima. She has urged arrest of Sujay, question all of his wrongdoings and take suitable legal action against him. She added that her husband is responding to treatment and is free from danger.
