No response from Goa Governor when asked about Parrikar's health: Congress

Panaji, Oct 11 (IANS): Goa Governor Mridula Sinha did not respond to questions about Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's failing health, Congress MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar said on Wednesday, after a meeting at Raj Bhavan here.

"We have been repeatedly seeking an update on the Chief Minister's health but nothing has come from anyone. Today, again we asked the Governor but there was no response to our query from her side," Kavlekar told reporters outside the Governor's House.

The Leader of Opposition also said there was "so much confusion" about the health status of the former Defence Minister, who is currently being treated for advanced pancreatic cancer at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Science, where he was admitted last month.

"From the government side some are saying that the Chief Minister's health is fine, but if that were the case, why is there practically no government in Goa? Why is law and order going bad, why is corruption on the rise?" Kavlekar said.

On Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Rajesh Patnekar after a meeting with Parrikar in Delhi, said that the Chief Minister had assured him that he would be celebrating Diwali in Goa. A day earlier, another BJP MLA Michael Lobo had maintained that there was "no positivity" about Parrikar's health.

The health of Parrikar has been a matter of public concern in Goa for the last eight months, ever since he was diagnosed for advanced pancreatic cancer in February.

The former Defence Minister has been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, New York and Delhi over the last several months, even as the opposition has demanded his resignation for not being able to effectively head the BJP-led coalition government in the coastal state.

There has been no medical advisory about the Chief Minister's health either by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) or the state unit of the BJP.

The CMO in informal messages has maintained that Parrikar was recovering from a minor pancreatic ailment.
