Budding singers Vijaylakshmi, Tanush emerge winners of Voice of Udupi Season 5

Udupi, Dec 4: Vijayalakshmi and Tanush Raj with their scintillating performances, bagged the top prizes in above 15 years category and below 15 years category respectively and took home the winning trophies of 'Voice of Udupi Season 5' on Saturday, December 2.

After six weeks of tough rounds, the much watched singing reality competition 'Voice of Udupi Season 5' ended with outstanding performances from the top twelve contestants at Town hall, Ajjarkad.

The winners, Vijayalakshmi and Tanush Raj, along with the trophies, were awarded cash prizes. This apart, they even bagged a chance to sing playback for upcoming Tulu film ‘Ekkur’.

Vijayalakshmi and Tanush Raj were one of the last six finalists who performed in front of scores of music lovers. Both stolen the hearts of the audience and jury. Vijayalakshmi sang the song ‘Teredide Mane Oo Baa Athtihi from the movie ‘Hosa Belaku’ and Tanush Raj rendered the Kannada song ‘Aata Hudugatavo Paramathmanatavo’ from the movie ‘Hatavadi’.

Apart from the winners, other contestants also impressed the audience by singing songs of different genres. Songs like ‘Jotheyali Jothe Jotheyali’, 'Noorondu Nenapu Edheyala, ‘Shilegalu Sangeethava Halide’, ’Male Ninthu Hoda Mele’ and ‘Tanmayalaadenu Tiliyuva Munnave were sung by Swastik, Likhith Raj, Supreetha, Sharvani and Trienel Pinto respectively in the final round in the below 15 age category.

‘Rambe Ni Vayyarada Rambe’, ‘Gaana Vidya Badi’, ‘Natana Vi Sharade’, ‘Manese Baduku’, and ‘Krishna Nee Begane Baro’ ‘were sung by Nisha Fernandes, Rajath Mayya, Vignesh, Supreeth U B and Savitha respectively in the final round of above 15 age category.

Runners up Swastik and Nisha Fernandes received trophies along with certificates and the other eight participants were honoured with memento and certificates.

'Voice of Udupi' was organized by Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidhara Okkoota (R) Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and presented by Namma Mobile Udupi.

Earlier, the programme began with a brief formal stage function, with prayer rendered by Varsha Bhaskar Acharya. The guests present on the dais lit the lamp.

President of the Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidhara Okkoota (KSKO) Jagadeesh Shetty addressing the gathering said, “This year is a very delightful year for us because we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Okkoota. Providing a platform to emerging talents is the main purpose of the event.”

Jayakar Shetty Indrali, general manager Badagubettu Credit Cooperative Society said, “KSKO is serving since many years in coastal Karnataka. It has created a stage for talents. No one knows where talent lies. Talented people might be in our locality, but there is a need to recognize them.”

Muralidhar Kamath, secretary, KSKO, Bhaskar Basrur, president, Udupi unit, Nirupama Prasad Shetty, district guiding lioness-317C, Mallika Shetty, former president, Ganesh and Harish, proprietors Namma Mobile Udupi, Dr Suresh Shenoy, Orthopedician, Udupi, Vijaya Gopal Bangera, former district lioness advisor cultural, vice-chairman Narayana Guru Urban Cooperative Bank, Udupi, Prashanth and others were present.

The competition began after the formal stage function. Judges Yashwanth Acharya, Shashikiran Chennagiri and Ajay Warrier gave their valuable comments and advised the participants to improve based on their performances.

A team of musicians added more energy to the musical evening and captivated the audience throughout the show. J Deepak played keyboard, Ram Rao Rangdhol on rhythm pad, Rajgopal on lead guitar, Vittal Rangdhol on tabla and Tony D’Silva on bass guitar enhanced the performances.

Naveen Bettakoppa and K Naveen Chandra Koppa compered the programme.

Popular VJ of coastal Karnataka Hisrar Tallani hosted event.

Singers Prem Kumar and B Karanth were felicitated on the occasion for their dedication and dedicated service to music.

The title song ‘Voice of Udupi’ was sung by Abhishek Koradkal Rao, Nihal Tauro, Keerthan Holla and Ayra Acharya, who are the winners of the previous four seasons.

It was collective effort of Jagadish Shetty, president, Bhaskar Basrur, vice president, K Naveen Chandra Koppa, deputy secretary, Janardan Padmashali, Manipal convener, Shubhashit Udupi, Sharat Uchila, former vice president and office bearers of KSKO.
