Mangaluru: Mount Carmel bids adieu to class X, class XII students

Mangaluru, Feb 11: "Goodbyes are not always bad, else they would be called badbyes."

The farewell programme was conducted for the 6th batch of class X and 3rd batch of class XII on Saturday February 11 in the school auditorium. The big day for the students in the school began with a farewell Mass at Maryhill Chapel offered by Fr Sterwin. The liturgy was conducted by the students class VIII. At the end of the Mass, Fr Sterwin prayed over the students of Class X and XII by laying hands on them.

The outgoing students were welcomed with a flower and a gift bag each as they entered the auditorium. A meaningful programme was organised by class IX and XI students. Invoking Lord Almighty’s blessings, the function was succeeded by lighting of the lamp by Administrator, Sr Carissima; Principal, Sr Melissa ; teachers, Silvia and Vidya; head boy Chinmaya H N and head girl Roshna Narayan. The diyas of the other students were lit with the same flame with a message to spread the light of love and goodness all around.

The junior students welcomed their seniors with a traditional dance reflecting the elegance of our cultural roots and a welcome speech by Meghana Shenoy. A cultural entertainment was soon followed. The theme of the event was about the journey of a child right from its first day in school to class XII. The message imparted “Live Life to the Fullest” gave the audience a glimpse of values instilled in them of sharing, caring, friendship and hard work while at school. The nightingales sang a touching farewell song.

Various spot games like ‘flip the bottle’, ‘water pon’ and quiz round were done. To re-live the days spent at MCCS, a power point presentation and video clip was the highlight of the event. It was an emotional moment as the students recollected their memories. The formal programme came to an end with vote of thanks by Brinell. The event was hosted by Shaima and Melric Crasta of class IX.

A small get-together was organised by the school management for the outgoing students. As a sign of gratitude to their Alma Mater, Chinmaya H.N, Roshna Narayan, Sneha A S and Sowmiya Sumith spoke their heart on behalf of their folks and expressed their gratitude. Their thanksgiving speech was a mixture of happiness of what they have learnt, to sadness as they leave the four walls of the school to spread their wings and fly to green pastures that awaits them in their chosen field.

Sr Carissima then addressed the ‘children’ to be like a ‘lotus leaf’ and float at any given situation in their life. She asked them to rise against any odds and face the world with their heads held high. Sr Melissa gave a final message and asked the students to be like an ‘Eagle’. In her address she said: “Fly high like an Eagle with your wings stretched and do follow the school Motto – Higher and Nobler.” This was followed by a fellowship meal for the outgoing students and staff.
