Mangalore: Tulu Movie 'Badi' Hits the Silver Screen in City

Mangalore, Sep 15: The costal district which has otherwise been a role model to the neighbouring districts and states in all other fields, has a stigma of the dowry menace attached to it, lamented Sitaram Kulal, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy here on Friday, September 14.
He was delivering the presidential address during the release of Tulu movie ‘Badi’ which was held at Don Bosco Hall in the city.
People who know and speak Tulu at home hardly watch movies made in Tulu language, which attitude had adversely affected the growth of the Tulu film industry, he added.
A majority of Tuluvas do not watch movies made in Tulu; instead they criticize those who go to view Tulu movies at the theatres. Moreover they make adverse comments over the cast, crew and quality of the movie, both on and off the screen, he added.
"It is a matter of shame that only 37 Tulu movies had been produced so far, that too without any significant profit. Movies of other languages achieve stunningly successful run of a few hundred days. If this situation prevails, Tulu industry would be marginalized some day or other, he said with deep concern.
Producer of the movie Richard Castelino, in his introductory speech said, "We are willing to spend any amount of money on unproductive things. But we expect high returns when it comes to movies made in Tulu. The public support to the Tulu film industry is need of the hour."
B A Abdul Rehman, president of Beary Central Academy, Raymond Quadros, producer of Konkani movie ‘Padri’, Shreekar Prabhu of Sri Nidhi Associates, M G Rahim, producer of a Tulu album, Ashok Shet of Shwetha Jewellery, Shalini Shetty, manager of Vijaya Bank, spoke and conveyed their best wishes to the cast and crew of the new Tulu movie.
Milagres parish priest Fr Walter D'Mello graced the occasion and wished the new movie and the Tulu film industry all success.
Charan Ragdev, music director of the movie Badi, welcomed the gathering, compered and proposed vote of thanks.
