Mangaluru, Apr 17: MLA J R Lobo along with officials of the horticulture department and women and children welfare department inspected Kadri Park here on April 17 and revealed plans to develop the park further, including reinstallation of the toy train.

During the inspection he noted that greenery in the park has not been maintained and took the officials to task. He also asked the deputy director of the horticulture department to set right the park as soon as possible. Water problem has been solved but installation of sprinklers is not complete.

Speaking to reporters, J R Lobo said, "A few days back we laid the foundation stone for the musical fountain. The project has been taken up at a cost of Rs 5 crore and the amount has already been sanctioned by the state government.

"Moreover, the toy train will be reinstalled with the contribution of women and children welfare department. For this purpose Rs 37.54 lac has been sanctioned and within two to three months this work will be completed. I thank women and children welfare minister Umashree and chief secretary Rajneesh Goel for sanctioning the amount. I have already sanctioned Rs 30 lac from the MLA fund for the installation of a new entrance block and a gate," he said.

"We are also planning to develop a park for the differently-abled, and for this purpose we have sought contributions from sponsors. In case we do not get any sponsor I will do it with the MLA fund," he added.

Lobo gave strict instructions to the officials to maintain greenery in the park and concentrate on its maintenance, and to install sprinklers throughout out the park. He also directed the deputy director of women and child welfare department to organize a meeting with the zilla panchayat CEO to plan on how to develop the toy train.

J R Lobo will also seek funds from the MCC to develop the road from Circuit House to Kadri Park including footpath and parking facility. There are also plans to form a Kadri Park society so as to get more funds and develop it further on the lines of Pilikula Nisargadhama.

Gertrude Veigas, assistant director of women and children welfare department, DK and Yogish, deputy director of horticulture department were present.

It is high time for the govt. to put all the promises related to Kadri Park into action. If we are to take account of the innumerable promises and assurances given by various politicians of all parties during various govt.'s over the past decade or so, we should have had the best park in the whole of Karnataka. We are fooled time and again by the sweet talking politicians. Can we now see some action from our govt. to improve this nice green area probably the only green area left in Mangalore?

I am not up to-date with the price of Iron-scrap these days. It would fetch more money by scrapping this junk and asking some Engineering Institutes to create a new Toy train for the children. I am sure they will do with pleasure and also in less time-frame.
If India can send a space-craft to the Planet Mars can't they invent a simple Toy train ? Dear Mr. J.R. This is simple thinking. Jai Hind

Good initiative to develop the much needed road and footpath from circuit house to Kari park. The funds can be raised through sponsors and kadri park society. Please keep separate allocate parking for two wheelers and four wheelers, so that more space can be utilised. The kadri park society members and sponsors should have reserved parking. While forming the kadri society park please announce in the local news paper and I am sure many people will come forward to become members, as many of well known personalities who regularly visits park

    Tridev,
If Mr Lobo is doing good things then appreciate. He is not only going in one way as you say. If a planetarium is coming near Pilikula it is his effort. How many special fund allocations he has brought to Mangalore. You are unaware. If you are following the news you would have seen the number of concretised roads inaugurated and completed in record time. See the inner roads where works are in full swing. Have you visited his Office. See the number of poor people flocking with representations and each and everyone is heard and attended to. On the spot the officials are contacted and many of the genuine grievances are attended to irrespective of caste and community. Mangalore has not seen such a committed and hard working MLA as Mr Lobo. His past experience as an HQA to D.C., Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation etc. etc. is an asset to Mangaloreans to have such an MLA. In this limited space I am unable to mention all the works he has done and has been doing. I appeal to you to appreciate the work of such a person.
