Mangalore: Assembly elections - 72.38 percent voter turnout in Dakshina Kannada

Mangalore, May 5: At the end of the polling day, Dakshina Kannada recorded a total turnout of 72.38 percent.
Except for a few stray incidents, the polling was largely peaceful.
The constituency-wise voter turnout is as follows:
Mangalore North - 67%
Mangalore South - 64%
Mangalore (Ullal) - 73.6%
Bantwal - 78%
Beltangady - 74.5%
Moodbidri - 70%
Puttur - 80%
Sullia - 72%

The polling percentage in the district stood at 32 percent by 1 pm.
The election centres will be open till 6 pm.

By 11 am, 27 percent voting was recorded in the district.
Crowds begans thronging their respective polling booths as the morning progressed. Eligible voters of all were seeing casting their votes.
Among the senior-most voters was 92-year-old Louisa D'Souza, who felt that voting was her right. She cast her vote at Lourdes School, Bejai.

By 9.45 am, the district recorded a voter turnout of 13 percent.
Though the polling began on a slow pace at 7 am, voters began to queue in their respective booths after 8.30 am.
Voting is expected to pick up as the day progresses. Unlike previous years, polling booths this time will be open up till 6 pm.

After days of intense campaigning that saw perhaps every trick in the book being played by the parties, candidates and their supporters, with many of them being booked and arrested too, the day has finally dawned where the voter gets to become the winner.
Polling began in all the constituencies across the city at 7 am.








One of the first persons to cast his vote was Congress candidate from Mangalore South J R Lobo, who came along with his family. They cast their votes at St Theresa School.
Speaking to mediapersons, Lobo said he was confident that the voters would bless him this time. "I will be with them at all times," he said.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza voted at Ganapathy High School.
BJP candidate from Mangalore North J Krishna Palemar cast his vote at the polling centre in Jail Road, so also BJP Mangalore South candidate Yogish Bhat. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel cast his vote at St Aloysius High School, Lady Hill.
Speaking to mediapersons, Palemar said that although he is from Mangalore North (Suratkal), he has to cast his vote in Mangalore South constituency. "I visited my constituency this morning. Voting is going on at a good speed, and the situation is peaceful. I am confident that the voters will choose me," he said.
Though polling began on a slow note, it is expected to pick up as the day progresses. The time has been extended by one hour in the evening too, with the polling ending at 6 pm.
