Nativity Fest : Kanara Association - Kuwait (NKA-K)

By Grace Fernandes

Kuwait, Sep 10: The members of the North Kanara Association - Kuwait (NKA-K) celebrated the Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on 15th August 2011, which is one of the most popular feasts celebrated by the Catholics all over India.

The members of the NKA -K participated in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the St. Therese Church, Salmiya, for the 6.30pm services.  The members then proceeded for a festive get-together at the residence Mr. John Fernandes, the Vice-President of NKA-K.  The statue of Mother Mary was beautifully adorned.  The members all said the Rosary and the Litany was sung in Latin.  Petitions were raised for the various needs of the members and also the members prayed for Sister Carmel Ann, the founder of the Association.  The Rosary was devotedly ended by singing the popular Konkani hymn 'MARIA MAI KURPECHI'

A homely and festive atmosphere ensued which brought back nostalgic memories of back home in India.  Snacks were distributed which were sponsored by some of the members.
Sumptuous home-made food was served which comprised of Prawn Pulaav, variety of Chicken Curries, Sannas, Sorpotel and Salad which was all prepared by the members in their own kitchens.  To make justice to the feast in the true native sense, some of the ladies of the Association, gathered together on the eve of 14th August and prepared Patolis which were served as Dessert along with Fruit Salad.  Dinner was served by saying 'Grace before Meals' by all the members.

The celebration of this feast, was very much appreciated by all the members, especially by the bachelors, who are away from their families who felt a homely togetherness.   A game of Housie was played and prizes were distributed.

Salvador D'souza, one of the members of the NKA-K proposed a spontaneous heart-throbbing and touching Vote of Thanks.

The celebration of the feast concluded with lingering memories until the next celebration.
