Rajnath reviews flood situation in Bengal, Odisha


New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday reviewed the flood situation in West Bengal and Odisha and assured both state governments of full central support, an official statement said.

He spoke to the chief ministers of both the states - Mamta Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik - and inquired about the flood situation in the states, the statement said.

"He assured (the affected states) of full central support to deal with the situation," it said.

So far, 69 deaths have been reported from various parts of West Bengal in flood-related incidents, it said.

A total of 2,213 relief camps have been opened for about 50 lakh affected people and 234 boats have been deployed for rescue and relief operations in the state.

In Odisha, 4,80,399 peoples are affected. So far 1574 peoples have been evacuated to safer places. Seven relief camps have been opened.

Gujarat, Rajasthan and Manipur have also been affected by floods.
