Heavy rain damages houses, crops in Leh


Srinagar, Aug 3 (IANS): Heavy overnight rain has damaged houses and crops in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh district, an official said on Monday.

"Incessant rain caused panic last night in Leh. Chuchot, Thicksey, Saboo, Phyang, Shey and Nyuma valley are worst affected areas in the district," an official told IANS.

He said the gushing water seeped into the Leh airport during the wee hours of Monday. "The runway has been cleared now and flights are operating as per the schedule.

"Rescue teams have been sent to rain-affected areas. So far no loss of life has been reported in the district", he said.
