by reciprocal arrangement with Star of Mysore

Patna, Feb 2: A lady advocate has moved the Patna High Court seeking an apology from Amitabh Bachchan's family for making cine star Aishwarya Rai enter into false marriages.

In her Public Interest Litigation, Shruti Singh raised the issue of a Manglik bride marrying a tree, animal or God, prior to her marriage to the groom.

"Such practice give rise to untouchability, which has been prohibited in the Constitution," she argued.

In her petition she has mentioned about the reports of Aishwarya marrying a peepal tree at Varanasi, followed by her marriage with a banana plant at Bangalore and with the idol of a God in Uttar Pradesh, before her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan.

"Such marriages not only violate Article 17 of the Constitution, which prohibits untouchability, but also violates fundamental hu-man rights," the petitioner said.

Describing the incident as "derogatory to a woman," the advocate sought the court's directive to the State Government and the Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB) to stop the practice.

"I have sought a ban on such practices, which are being followed even in Shitla Mata Mandir in Patna and Shiv temple at Deoghar," the petitioner said.
