Mumbai, Aug 12: Filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar on Wednesday treated his Instagram followers to a glimpse of the storyboards he created for his much-loved film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, which marked 25 years since its release.
Farhan shared photographs of his hand-drawn storyboards, in which he had carefully broken down scenes and noted the shots he wanted to use to make each moment more impactful, highlighting his attention to detail.
“Long before AI and before software was easily (think affordable) available, this was how I did my storyboards on Dil Chahta Hai. Hand drawn with every character looking like a fingerprint. Maybe that’s what made them unique,” he wrote on the photo-sharing platform.

He also invited fans to identify the scene featured in the storyboard, asking, “Any guesses on which scene? Comment below.”
Actor Karanveer Sharma correctly guessed the scene in the comments, recalling the film's dialogues and praising it as a “legendary film.”
As ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ completed 25 years, Farhan and producer Ritesh Sidhwani also issued an official statement marking the milestone.
“Twenty five years ago, we started Excel Entertainment and began work on a film called 'Dil Chahta Hai'. We had a simple belief - New voices and a different way of telling stories, will find an audience. We were 26 years old. We didn't have all the answers but we had an idea we believed in, the courage to take risks and the tenacity to make it happen,” they said.
Looking ahead, they said the next 25 years would include Excel Entertainment empowering young and aspiring filmmakers with bold ideas and the courage to tell stories differently.
Starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ also featured Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia in supporting roles.
