Sullia, Oct 24: Untimely rains coupled with whirlwind, thunder and lightning has resulted in heavy loss to public property in the entire taluk in the last one week.

Yenekal village has been at the receiving end of nature's fury. Several betelnut trees, electricity poles have been fallen. While 40 betelnut trees in the garden of one Dayanand K have been uprooted, 300 betelnut trees have fallen in Paramale Venkatramana Gowda's garden. Three electric police have fallen near Yenekal post office after a tree fell on the wire.

The house of Nagaraj Nekraje has been damaged owing to lightning.  Even he has sustained injuries in the mishap.  Janardhan from Karikkala has suffered worst loss owing to heavy rains.  While a few tiles of his house have been blown away by whirlwind, telephone, wiring in the house too has been damaged.  In Kalanja, more than 500 betelnut trees belonging to Narayana Bhat have been uprooted by whirlwind, while the house of Kote Balasubrahmanya has been damaged after a coconut tree fell on the same.

Loss to property has also been reported from Nalkur, Salpady, Kedila and nearby areas.
