Udupi, Oct 22: An enrichment programme for the staff-members of the neighbouring schools and colleges was held in St Lawrence Pre-University College, Moodubelle as part of its silver jubilee celebrations.

The seminar was inaugurated by Catholic Board of Education secretary Fr Wilson V D'Souza. St Lawrence Church assistant parish priest Fr Francis Crasta and parish council vice president Henry Fernandes were the chief guests.

Hilda Rodrigues, HOD, Economics, Milagres College, Kallianpur was the resource person for the programme. Principal Fr Paul Sequeira welcomed the gathering. Economics lecturer Shyamala proposed a vote of thanks. Chandrakala compered the programme.

The resource person dealt with the effective teaching and learning methods in the present world. All the teachers appreciated the presentation, content and the arrangemenst.

St Lawrence P U College has had the privilege of receiving the Award of Excellence given by the Catholic Board of Education (CBE) for securing the first place in the 2nd year PU final examination among institutions under the management of CBE.

The college secured 99% result, making it the topper among CBE managed institutions, the topper among institutions in Udupi Taluk and standing second in the entire Udupi District.

The award was received by principal Fr Paul Sequeira on the occasion of on Teachers' Day programme at CBE Headquarters, Mangalore. 

A function to mark this achievement was held in the college. Syndicate Bank AGM Mohan Kini, where the award was collectively received by all the staff members of PU section to mark the teamwork. The chief guest congratulated the principal, staff and students on their remarkable performance.

The management, parents of students and the general public have congratulated the principal, staff and students on their great achievement.

Udupi District PU College Principals’ Association has also awarded a Certificate of Excellence to the institution.

Cheque handed over 

As the institution is on the threshold of its Silver Jubilee, a few important projects have been chalked out by the Management. A lot of planning has gone into these project. Since the financial resources were insufficient, the management approached Syndicate Bank and convinced them of the necessity and their importance.

The bank officials willingly sanctioned a sum of Rs 100,000 and AGM Mohan Kini himself handed over the cheque the said function. Tis amount will be utilized by the institution to provide seating arrangements for the students.

Cultural Competitions and Volley Ball Tournament

As part of Silver Jubilee celebrations, the institution organized cultural competitions as well as volley ball tournament for the colleges of Udupi Taluk.
 
Dr Valerian D'Souza, correspondent of the institution, presided over the inaugural function. CAHP headmaster P R Aranha inaugurated the function. Assistant parish priest Fr Francis Crasta, St Lawrence English Medium School principal J B Miranda, Past Students' Association president K D Hebbar, PTA president Robert Menezes and principal Fr Paul Sequeira were present on the dais.

The response was very enthusiastic with 17 colleges taking part. Padubidri PU College lifted the winner’s trophy. While the second place was bagged by Kallianpur PU College, St Cecily’s PU College, Udupi and St John’s PU College, Shankarpura had to settle for the third place.

The volleyball tournament on the college ground was inaugurated by past students' association president K D Hebbar while principal Fr Paul Sequeira presided over the function.

Assistant PP Fr Francis Crasta, parish vice president, CAHP school HM P R Aranha, English Medium School principal J B Miranda, Vishwanath Bayari of PUE Dept. and Emmanuel Cornelio, retired PET, were present at the inauguration.

The response was very good with 20 colleges taking part. Minor drizzle did not dampen the spirits of the participant. St Mary’s PU College, Shirva lifted the winner’s trophy among boys, while St Lawrence P.U. College, Moodubelle won in the girls' section.
