Bantwal, Oct 20: Three persons accused of attempting rape on a housewife at Yermethotti of Punacha village near Vittal here surrendered before the police on Thursday October 19.  They were later produced before the court which in turn remanded them to judicial custody.

Uday Poojary (24), son of Koosappa Poojary of Thoranakatte, Prakash Rai (28), son of Kinnanna Rai of Aryapu in Puttur and Ravi Naik (19), son of Narayana Naik from Thoranakkate had been accused of trying to rape a housewife of Yermethottu on the day of district bundh. 

All the three accused are bus conductors and agents.  On the day of district bundh they had entered this particular house asking for drinking water.  However, when the housewife entered the house, these men followed her and then tried to sexually assault her.

Immediately, the lady shouted for help and managed to run out from the house.  It was quite easy for her to escape since the accused were under the influence of alcohol.  The lady had initially not filed a case with the police.  But a day later she approached the police and filed a case against the three.  However, the accused were absconding eversince while the police were searching them.  Finally they surrendered before the police on Thursday.
