Mangalore, Oct 20: Members of the Sangh Parivar and other such groups were behind the recent violent clashes in the city, a 12-member fact finding committee has found.

The team visited the violence-affected areas in the city and concluded that the riots were targeted towards the minority community and planned by the Parivar.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday October 19, Kranti Chaitanya of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Rights Committee said that the riots were aimed at destroying communal peace.

He alleged that the police failed in their duty and did not arrest certain miscreants even though their names were given by the victims. On the contrary, they have arrested many innocents. He also added that the police forces themselves were communalised and did not file cases against many wrong-doers.

The committee, however, managed to meet only H N Satyanarayana Rao, IGP (western range), as other officials were unavailable.

The committee placed several demands, including an independent judicial enquiry by a sitting judge, enquiry against police officials named by the victims, withdrawal of false cases and release of innocents from police custody.
