Amritsar, Nov 2: In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh announced his resignation from the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday, calling for clean politics and transparent administration in the state.
Singh, who was suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on June 29, 2025, made the announcement in a post on X addressed to the people of Amritsar.
Expressing gratitude to his constituents, he said he would remain indebted to them "until my last breath" for the love and respect they had shown him.

He called for collective efforts to move beyond what he described as "the politics of lanes and ribbon-cutting" and restore Punjab's position as a progressive state. He said the state was currently struggling with drugs, extortion, gangsterism and corruption.
Claiming that he had achieved 90 per cent of the targets set during his tenure as an MLA, Singh said his work had also encompassed responsibilities associated with councillors, mayors and MPs.
He described ending the "mai-baap" culture in politics as his greatest achievement, adding that he had always considered the public his source of inspiration.
Recalling his work in the Assembly, Singh said he had consistently raised issues concerning Amritsar, including water supply, sewage, Circuit House, Company Bagh, drainage problems, Guru Nanak Dev University, Government Medical College and Saroop Rani College.
He also referred to the Bargari sacrilege case, stating that he had raised constituency-specific issues in the Assembly by identifying individual neighbourhoods and localities.
Singh said he would work with the people to formulate a future strategy focused on clean politics and transparent governance. "My sole purpose is 'Punjab First'. Apart from this, I will have no personal interests," he said.
Meanwhile, AAP has suspended two other MLAs, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra and Chetan Singh Jouramajra, over alleged anti-party activities. Both leaders subsequently resigned from the party.
The AAP has said it would approach the Punjab Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of their legislative membership.
In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory by winning 92 of the state's 117 seats, while the Congress won 18.
