Bengaluru, Oct 21: The viewing period for the Mysuru Dasara lighting display will be extended by 10 days this year, chief minister D K Shivakumar has announced.

Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said more than one lakh people were visiting the city to enjoy the lighting arrangements. He added that he had also visited the displays after 11 pm, highlighting the growing public demand for the attraction.

He said the decision to extend the viewing period was taken in response to the increased interest among visitors.

The government has also decided to recognise the 100 best reels created by visitors during Dasara. People have been encouraged to post reels on social media showcasing the events and attractions they enjoy most, from the beginning to the end of the festival.

To participate, visitors must tag their reels with ‘Mysuru Dasara-2026’. The best 100 reels will receive awards, Shivakumar said.

He also noted that around 3,000 people had arrived to participate in the Kambala event, which is attracting lakhs of spectators. This year's Dasara was inaugurated by Abhinava Sri.
