Pennsylvania, Oct 20: Pennsylvania has reported 1,286 measles cases so far this year, an increase of 26 cases since Friday's update, as the highly contagious disease continues to spread across the US state, according to the state health department.

The state has recorded 247 measles-related hospitalisations this year, while five deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak, according to health department data.

At the national level, the US has recorded 4,410 measles cases as of October 15, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC has confirmed two measles-associated deaths in the country in 2026, although it has not identified the states where the deaths occurred.

Last week, the CDC announced that it would deploy additional support to Pennsylvania to assist with investigating the outbreak and responding to the continued spread of the disease.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can cause serious complications, particularly among young children and other vulnerable groups. Health authorities continue to monitor the spread of the disease and work to contain outbreaks.
