Kundapur, Oct 8: The Amasebailu police have cracked the suspicious death case of a 26-year-old youth from Hosangadi, revealing that he died of electrocution from an illegal electric fence. The police have arrested the estate owner for covering up the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Kaveena Naik, a resident of Tarki Makki in Hosangadi, who operated a tipper truck for a living. The accused is Shekhar Naik, the owner of the estate in Maatinamatha where the incident occurred.

Kaveena Naik

Kaveena had been reported missing, following which his brother Praveen Naik filed a complaint at the Amasebailu police station on October 2. On October 5, Kaveena's highly decomposed body was found lying on its back on a private property in Maatinamatha.

The circumstances of his death raised immediate suspicions. The spot where the body was discovered was not on Kaveena's regular route home, and his footwear was missing both from his feet and the surrounding area. Based on his brother's complaint suspecting foul play, the Amasebailu police intensified their investigation.

Illegal electric connection

The probe revealed that on the evening of October 2, Kaveena had taken a route through Shekhar Naik's estate to deliver money to his relatives who were in need. While walking through the property, he accidentally came into contact with a wire fence that had been illegally electrified. Shekhar Naik had bypassed his domestic electricity meter to run a live current through the estate fence to ward off wild animals. Kaveena sustained a massive electric shock and died on the spot.

The cover-up

Upon discovering the body on his property, Shekhar Naik allegedly attempted to destroy the evidence. He cut the two electric wires that were pinned under Kaveena's body, wrapped them around nearby poles, and completely concealed the fact that the death was caused by electrocution.

Police investigations confirmed the illegal power connection and the subsequent tampering with the crime scene. Based on the findings of severe negligence causing death and the deliberate concealment of facts, the police arrested Shekhar Naik. Further investigation is underway.
