Mumbai, Sep 29: Padma Shri and National Award-winning actress Vidya Balan is set to reunite with filmmaker R. Balki for a new Tamil film, 17 years after their last collaboration.

Vidya and Balki previously worked together in the 2009 film 'Paa', and the yet-to-be-titled project will mark their first collaboration since then.

The actress announced the new project through her Instagram Stories on Tuesday. She shared two pictures, with the first showing her seated on a couch in a monochrome frame.

"A quiet moment before the madness begins," she wrote on the picture.

In the second image, Vidya was seen holding a script, wearing spectacles and sporting a long braid.

"New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki," she wrote.

Vidya has not revealed further details about the project, including its title, cast or storyline. However, her post appears to confirm that she has begun work on the Tamil film.

The reunion has generated interest as it brings Vidya and Balki together once again after their collaboration on 'Paa'.

The new film adds to Vidya's upcoming projects. She will next be seen as Kantha in Rajinikanth-starrer 'Jailer 2', directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15, 2026, with Sun Pictures listing Vidya among the cast.

Vidya will also reunite with Akshay Kumar for an upcoming untitled comedy directed by Anees Bazmee. The film also stars Raashii Khanna and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 4, 2026.

The makers have already completed a schedule of the film in Kerala.
