Udupi, Sep 29: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, observed World Heart Day today by unveiling a heart-health awareness sculpture in the hospital's Ground Floor OPD Lounge. Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, unveiled the sculpture. The programme was organized by the department of cardiology and the department of cardiovascular & thoracic surgery, Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital, MAHE, Manipal.
This year’s World Heart Day message is 'Don’t miss a Beat'. The 3 D Sculpture is the work of Srinath from the department of community medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. He created it under the guidance of Dr Ashwini Kumar, professor & head, department of community medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The sculpture captures the spirit of this year’s theme. It has been placed in the OPD Lounge, one of the hospital's busiest areas. There, it will serve as a daily reminder to patients, caregivers, and visitors about the importance of caring for their hearts.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Avinash Shetty said, “Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in India, and much of it can be prevented. Many people ignore early warning signs such as chest discomfort, breathlessness or unusual tiredness until it is too late. Thousands of people pass through this lounge every day, and we hope this sculpture makes each of them pause and think about their own heart. I thank Srinath and Dr Ashwini Kumar for giving such meaningful shape to this year’s theme. A healthy diet, regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco and timely health check-ups can make a big difference. On this World Heart Day, our message is simple: don’t miss a beat, and don’t miss your check-up.”
Dr Ganesh Paramasivam, professor & head, department of cardiology, Dr Tom Devasia, professor of cardiology and Dr Ganesh Kamath Sevagur, professor & head, department of cardiovascular & thoracic surgery, were present on the occasion. They were joined by faculty members, doctors, nursing staff, and hospital staff.
