Isreal, Sep 25: Former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett was escorted from a restaurant in Bnei Brak on Thursday evening after a disturbance broke out during his visit.

Bennett was meeting several yeshiva students at the restaurant when a group of political activists arrived at the scene, according to a statement issued by his B’Yachad party.

The party said two objects were thrown toward Bennett and struck the head of a female staff member. She was treated at the scene by a Magen David Adom team and later released without requiring further medical attention.

However, police said in a statement that an object thrown by a passerby during the visit of a “public figure” did not hit the individual. Officers from the Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan police stations who were present at the scene immediately arrested the suspect, who was taken to a police station for questioning.

Videos circulated on social media showed crowds gathering outside the restaurant as the situation escalated. Police escorted Bennett from the area amid reports of threats against him.

Right-wing activist Mordechai David was also present and was filmed engaging in a verbal confrontation with Bennett and those accompanying him.

During the exchange, Bennett told David that if he became prime minister, David would not receive any state funding and urged him to enlist in the military.
