Aichi-Nagoya, Sep 24: India began Thursday’s action at the Asian Games 2026 with two medals as Roshibina Devi secured silver in women’s Sanda 60kg Wushu, while rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won bronze in the men’s double sculls.

Roshibina went down 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the final, with the Chinese athlete winning both rounds 5-0. The Indian Wushu star had reached the title clash after defeating Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinal.

The silver marked Roshibina’s second consecutive Asian Games silver medal. She had also won silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Games after claiming bronze at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang edition. With three successive Asian Games medals, she has become the first Indian woman to achieve the feat in Wushu.

Roshibina’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya included a notable victory over Vietnam’s 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy before she advanced to the final.

In rowing, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan secured bronze in the men’s double sculls after clocking 6:13.25 at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course.

The Indian duo remained in second position at the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m marks but slipped to third during the final 500 metres. China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide won gold in 6:09.37, while Uzbekistan’s Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin took silver in 6:10.49.

The Indian pair finished 3.48 seconds behind the Chinese gold medallists and 2.76 seconds behind the Uzbek silver medallists.

Earlier, Balraj Panwar narrowly missed out on a rowing medal, finishing fourth in the men’s single sculls final with a time of 6:54.80. He had remained in medal position through much of the race before dropping to fourth in the closing stages.
