New Delhi, Sep 22: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who posed as police personnel at a park near Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi, police said.
According to the complaint, the girl, a Delhi resident, had visited Kalkaji Mandir with her 17-year-old male friend at around 7 pm on Monday. After offering prayers, the two went to a park located near the temple at around 7.30 pm.
Police said the three accused, aged between 25 and 30 years, allegedly approached the teenagers and claimed to be policemen. They allegedly threatened the two before sexually assaulting the girl.
A PCR call regarding the alleged incident at the park connecting Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON Temple was received at around 8.45 pm, following which a police team reached the spot.
The girl was taken for a medical examination, and police said further legal action was being taken based on her statement. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
One accused arrested after encounter
One of the three accused, identified as Asif, was arrested following an encounter with police in southeast Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.
According to police, several teams were formed to trace the accused. During the investigation, police received specific information about Asif's movement near DM Office Road in Amar Colony and laid a trap to intercept him.
When the police team attempted to stop him, Asif allegedly opened fire, firing three rounds despite being asked to surrender. One bullet struck the bullet-proof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh.
Police said the head constable fired two rounds in self-defence, one of which hit Asif in the right leg. The injured accused was subsequently taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
Police alleged that Asif had threatened the girl with a firearm and a knife and sexually assaulted her, while the two other accused accompanying him also allegedly assaulted her. The three men allegedly threatened the girl and her friend following the incident.
Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory teams were called to the encounter site and further legal proceedings are underway. Police are continuing efforts to trace the remaining two accused.
Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas to identify the accused and establish the sequence of events. They are gathering information about people who may have been present in or around the park when the alleged incident took place.
Another 17-year-old girl allegedly raped and killed
In a separate case in Delhi, another 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and stabbed to death before her body was dumped in an open field, police said.
According to investigators, four people, including three minors, were allegedly involved in the case. The girl and the accused were known to each other and had travelled together in a tempo.
Police said the group allegedly consumed alcohol inside the vehicle before the girl was sexually assaulted and killed. Her body was subsequently disposed of in an open field.
The girl's decomposed body was found near Jaipal Rana's field on Kushak Road on September 13. Police said the condition of the body made it difficult to immediately establish the victim's gender.
The girl had not been reported missing by her family. According to police, her family said she would sometimes leave home and return after a few days.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crime and the involvement of the accused.
