Mumbai, Sep 15: Allegations of large-scale irregularities in transactions involving Waqf properties have surfaced in Maharashtra, with demands for an inquiry into around 96,000 acres of land owned by the Maharashtra Waqf Board.

According to the allegations, less than five per cent of the Waqf land is being utilised for the benefit of the community, while irregularities are allegedly taking place in transactions involving Waqf properties.

Questions have also been raised against members of the Waqf Board, with allegations of corruption in connection with the management and transactions of Waqf properties.

The demand for an inquiry comes amid concerns over the utilisation and protection of Waqf land in the state. Those raising the issue have sought a comprehensive investigation into the approximately 96,000 acres under the Waqf Board to determine how the properties have been managed and whether any land has been illegally transferred or otherwise misused.
