Hyderabad, Sep 9: BRS working president KT Rama Rao was among 22 party MLAs suspended from the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday for the remainder of the Monsoon Session following protests that disrupted proceedings.
The BRS legislators entered the well of the House and raised slogans demanding an immediate discussion on what they described as the deteriorating law and order situation in Telangana. KTR had moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on alleged police high-handedness against women MLAs and alleged death threats against BRS chief and Leader of Opposition K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The protest continued despite repeated appeals from Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, who urged the legislators to return to their seats and allow the House to function.
The suspension motion was moved by Sridhar Babu before the Speaker announced the suspension of the 22 BRS MLAs for the remainder of the session.
The suspended legislators include KTR, Anil Jadhav, T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Kaushik Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Kova Laxmi, K Manik Rao, Chinta Prabhakar, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Vemula Prashant Reddy, Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, P Sabita Indira Reddy, Kalvakuntla Sanjay, T Srinivas Yadav, D Sudheer Reddy, V Sunita Laxma Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Vijeyudu and KP Vivekananda.
Other BRS legislators had also submitted notices seeking a discussion on the law and order situation and related issues. Proceedings were disrupted soon after the House assembled as members raised slogans demanding justice.
The BRS has 37 MLAs in the 119-member Telangana Assembly. The latest suspension has further intensified the confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, which has repeatedly raised various issues during the ongoing session.
Meanwhile, a BRS delegation led by KTR is scheduled to meet Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla in Hyderabad to raise the issues highlighted by the party during the Assembly session and discuss recent developments involving its legislators.
