Mangaluru: Sam Varghese named new law & order DCP

Mangaluru, Sept 7: The state government has appointed Sam Varghese as the new deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Law and Order, Mangaluru city, with immediate effect.

Varghese, who was serving as superintendent of police (SP) in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bengaluru, has been transferred and posted as DCP (Law and Order), Mangaluru city.

The post had fallen vacant following the recent transfer of Mithun H N, who had earlier served as Mangaluru City DCP (Law and Order), as superintendent of police (SP), Gadag district. Varghese has now been appointed to fill the vacancy.

Originally from Kottayam, Kerala, Sam Varghese is a 2022-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. He began his police career as assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Channagiri subdivision, Davanagere district.

He later served as superintendent of police in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bengaluru, before taking up his new assignment as Mangaluru City DCP (Law and Order).
