Mangaluru, Sep 4: Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangaluru marked the inauguration of the Season of Creation 2026 with the theme “Living Waters,” along with celebrations of the nativity of Mother Mary, harvest festivals and Girl Child Day on September 3.
The vibrant programme, presented by students of Grades VIII C, D and E under the guidance of their mentors, brought together faith, culture, gratitude and environmental responsibility, highlighting the call to protect god’s creation and care for our common home, Mother Earth.
The programme commenced with a prayer service, followed by a vibrant welcome dance. The chief guest, Sr Therese Teena AC, principal of Ladyhill ICSE School, was formally introduced to the gathering by Shanaya and Elisha, and was welcomed by Principal Sr Melissa AC, who presented her with a flower sapling symbolising the commitment to nurture and protect nature.
The Season of Creation was creatively inaugurated by the chief guest and other dignitaries, followed by a rosette-pinning ceremony, symbolising a collective pledge to become responsible stewards of creation. The theme “Living Waters” came alive through a symbolic reflection, “Immersion in Living Waters,” portraying renewal and transformation.
A skit on water conservation reinforced the message that every drop is precious. A colourful dance depicting the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space, celebrated the harmony and interconnectedness of creation.
The students then presented the significance of the nativity of Mother Mary, highlighting Mary as a model of faith, humility, obedience and loving service. The presentation also featured the Monthi Feast, Mangaluru’s traditional harvest celebration, followed by vibrant harvest dances showcasing India’s rich cultural traditions and gratitude for nature’s abundance.
A thought-provoking skit, “Save Girl Child, Save Water and Save the Environment,” drew attention to dignity, equality, compassion and sustainable living. The school’s tradition of ‘Love Offering’ was also highlighted, with students contributing cash and kind to homes of destitutes and orphanages as an expression of gratitude and solidarity with those in need.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Sr Therese Teena A.C appreciated the students and mentors for their creative and meaningful presentations. Connecting her message to “Living Waters,” she presented the acronym F-L-O-W: Find someone who needs help; Love and respect everyone; Own your responsibilities and save water; Work for a better world. She encouraged the students to make these values a way of life.
Principal Sr Melissa congratulated the students for their creative and impactful programme. Emphasising that “every drop counts”, she urged them to conserve water, protect natural resources and turn the values celebrated on stage into concrete action in their daily lives.
The winners of the English essay writing competition were felicitated by the chief guest. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Aishwarya, Ankur and Kewin. The event was confidently compered by Tanvi, Angela, Aarya, Kyati, Keona, Hrithvik, Rishal and Aryan.
The celebration concluded with a powerful reminder that we are not merely beneficiaries of creation, but its responsible custodians, called to care, conserve, serve and work together for a better world.
