Mangaluru, Sep 4: The students of III B section, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management (IPSLM), Srinivas University, participated in an industrial visit to the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) on August 21. The visit provided the students with valuable practical exposure to port operations and the functioning of a major seaport.

During the visit, the students gained insights into cargo handling, import and export procedures, vessel movement, port logistics, berthing operations, and maritime safety. They also learned about the role of buoys in guiding vessels through the navigation channel, the responsibilities of marine pilots, and various safety features and equipment used at the port. The interaction with port officials helped students connect their classroom learning with real-world port and shipping operations.

The students also received a technical briefing on the port's infrastructure, marine operations, and various aspects of port management, which enhanced their practical understanding of the maritime industry.

The industrial visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr Venkatesh Amin, dean, and Prof Souparnika Rao, head of the department, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management, and coordinated by Prof Lestan D'Souza, industry visit coordinator.

The students were accompanied and guided by Prof Akshatha and Prof Pavithra, who supported the students throughout the visit and facilitated their learning experience.

The visit was an enriching academic experience that helped students gain practical knowledge, industry exposure, and a better understanding of the various operations involved in port and shipping management.
