Gaza, Sep 4: At least three Palestinians were killed and several others injured in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, as Israeli officials continued to promote a plan aimed at removing Palestinians from the territory.
An Israeli drone strike in the Rimal neighbourhood of western Gaza City killed one person and injured several others, according to medical sources. Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that at least two missiles were fired at a group of civilians in the area.
In a separate incident in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on a group of Palestinians, killing two people and injuring others. An Al Jazeera reporter said one of those killed was a 13-year-old child, while the other was an adult who died after being transferred to a medical point.
The Israeli military said its forces had identified two people who had crossed the so-called Yellow Line in northern Gaza and “eliminated” them, claiming they posed a threat. The Yellow Line is a buffer zone established inside Gaza under the ceasefire arrangement.
The attacks came despite a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect in October. While the agreement halted major fighting, deadly Israeli strikes have continued across the territory.
Meanwhile, Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Thursday unveiled a plan seeking the departure of around two million Palestinians from Gaza over seven years. According to his office, the proposal includes establishing a dedicated ministry and securing agreements with countries willing to receive people from Gaza.
The plan envisages the departure of around 250,000 Palestinians in the first year, approximately 1.1 million within three years and about 1.9 million within seven years. Ben-Gvir described the proposal as “realistic” and said it was intended to encourage the emigration of Gaza’s inhabitants.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz also said on Wednesday that Israel continued to work towards removing Palestinians from Gaza.
The forced displacement of civilians from occupied territory is prohibited under international humanitarian law and can constitute a war crime.
Israel’s military offensive in Gaza since October 2023 has displaced the vast majority of the territory’s population. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 73,470 people have been killed in the conflict, including more than 1,330 since the ceasefire began.
