Mangaluru, Sep 1: Committed to empowering women through education, skill development and meaningful opportunities, St Agnes College (Autonomous), has consistently taken initiatives to equip learners with practical and vocational skills that promote self-reliance and enhance their employability.
As part of this commitment, the college inaugurated a fashion designing course on September 1 at the college for women and young girls. The initiative seeks to provide learners with a valuable skill, nurture their creativity, promote self-reliance and, most importantly, create avenues for employment and entrepreneurship.
The programme was inaugurated by Marjorie Texeira, an alumna of St Agnes College.
Ronald Gomes, president of CASK and chief guest of the programme, in his address highlighted that tailoring is an important skill that fosters creativity, confidence and self-reliance. He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity and utilise the skills acquired through the training for their personal and professional growth.
Presiding over the programme, Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal of St Agnes College, emphasised that the focus of the initiative is to provide learners with practical training that can translate into meaningful employment opportunities. She stated that the course is designed not merely to impart tailoring skills, but to equip participants with the confidence and competence to seek employment, take up entrepreneurial ventures and become economically self-reliant.
She also acknowledged the valuable support and collaboration of CASK in organising the programme, with special appreciation to Marjorie Texeira for her support towards making the initiative possible. She expressed the hope that the training would open new avenues for learners and contribute to their empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.
A total of 18 learners are currently participating in the training course.
The programme was attended by the course coordinators, Dr Shailaja and Mokshitha, instructors Felcita and Hemalatha, along with others.
