Tel Aviv, Sep 1: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday visited the Benzion Netanyahu School in Ramle, which was damaged by an Iranian missile during the recent war, as schools across the country reopened for the 2026-27 academic year.

Netanyahu, accompanied by Education Minister Yoav Kisch, met teachers, administrative staff and students during his visit to the renovated school. The building underwent rehabilitation following the missile strike and was officially inaugurated ahead of the new academic year.

Around 2.6 million students, including nearly 180,000 first-graders, are expected to begin classes at schools and kindergartens across Israel.

The Education Ministry said the new academic year will focus on strengthening students' sense of belonging and resilience, along with education on identity and heritage. The ministry is also introducing financial education and expanding the use of artificial intelligence in learning and examinations.

Education Minister Kisch said the government aims to strengthen students' resilience and sense of belonging while equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing world.

The ministry has identified three key priorities for the academic year — belonging and security, identity and roots, and knowledge and tools for coping with a changing world.
