Mankal Vaidya, Umashree set for unanimous election to Karnataka deputy posts

Bengaluru, Aug 18: Congress leaders Mankal Vaidya and Umashree are set to be elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council respectively, with the elections scheduled for Tuesday.

Bhatkal Congress MLA Mankal Vaidya filed his nomination for the post of Deputy Speaker on Monday. Congress MLC Umashree also submitted her nomination for the post of Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council.

The elections are expected to be unanimous as the Opposition NDA has decided not to field candidates for either post.

The development comes during the ongoing Karnataka Assembly session, which has been extended until February 4.
