Mangaluru, Aug 17: What better way to celebrate freedom than to serve the place we call home? Putting this thought into action, the YCS and ICYM Milagres Unit of Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, organised “Mission Swachhta – Together We Clean, Together We Care” on Independence Day.

Moving beyond flags and celebrations, the young members took to the streets with gloves, brooms and garbage bags, cleaning public spaces around Hampankatta Circle, Mother Teresa Road and the road adjoining Wenlock Hospital.

The initiative turned the spirit of Independence Day into a visible act of service, civic responsibility and care for creation. The programme received appreciation from the public, who welcomed the efforts of the young volunteers to keep the city clean.

With the spirit of “Cleaner Mangalore”, the YCS and ICYM members gave a simple yet powerful message: a cleaner city begins when each one of us takes responsibility for the place we call home.
