Udupi, Aug 15: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride in the presence of dignitaries, teachers, students, parents and well-wishers.

The programme commenced with flag hoisting by the chief guest, followed by the National Anthem and flag song, which filled the gathering with a deep sense of patriotism and pride.

The ceremonial parade by NCC, Scouts & Guides and Red cross members showcased the discipline, unity, coordination and patriotic spirit. Glen Vegas announced the parade. A solemn floral tribute was offered to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation and Dr B R Ambedkar, the father of Indian Constitution, honouring their invaluable contributions to the nation.

The celebration continued with a prayer song by the students’ choir and the welcome address by Roopa K S.

The chief guest, Dr Cifha Crecil Saldanha, assistant professor (senior scale), Department of Biomedical Engineering, MIT, MAHE, Manipal was felicitated for her valuable service and contribution to society. In her inspiring address, Dr Cifha emphasised the need to shape future generations with strong values and character and to nurture responsible citizens who make the nation proud.

The presidential address by Fr Denis D’Sa further enriched the occasion. In his address, he stressed the need to strengthen trust and tolerance among fellow citizens and to build an inclusive India — the vision that Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of.

Assistant parish priest Fr Leo Praveen and Maxim D'souza, the vice president of Parish Pastoral Council, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi graced the occasion.

The programme was compered by Rajashree Nayak and concluded with the vote of thanks by Geetha, followed by patriotic slogans.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and of our responsibility to uphold the values of unity, patriotism, and service to the nation.
