Belagavi, Aug 15: St Paul’s High School, camp, Belagavi, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, youthful energy and cultural splendour, while also bidding a warm and emotional farewell to Carmeline D’Mello, whose dedicated service has enriched the school community.
The celebration opened with the escorting of the dignitaries, garlanding of the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B R Ambedkar, and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The school band set the patriotic tone with Vande Mataram, followed by a prayer dance by class VIII.
The unfurling of the national flag and the national anthem filled the campus with a deep sense of pride and patriotism. The NCC and Scouts then presented an impressive marching display.
The young Paulites showcased India’s rich cultural diversity and their own remarkable talents through a vibrant array of performances. Students of classes III, VI and IX presented welcome songs, patriotic dances and songs, fancy dress, and speeches in Kannada and Hindi. A colourful tribal dance by the Jesuit School added further vibrancy to the celebration.
A particularly moving highlight was the special farewell song presented by students and teachers in honour of Carmeline D’Mello. The performance expressed the school community’s heartfelt gratitude for her years of dedicated service, commitment and care for generations of children.
The programme continued with an inspiring address by the chief guest, followed by an energetic Punjabi dance, tribal dance and a special performance by PTA members. The celebration concluded with Vande Mataram and the national anthem.
The event was a fitting blend of patriotism, talent, culture and gratitude — honouring the sacrifices that won India its freedom, celebrating the talents of young Paulites and paying tribute to a teacher who devoted herself to the growth and formation of children.
It was a day when freedom was celebrated, talent was applauded and a legacy of service was honoured.
