Mangaluru, Aug 6: A programme on 'Value addition through creativity – The business potential of coconut shell crafts' was organised jointly by the IQAC, Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), Commerce & Management Association and ECO Club of Government First Grade College, Kavoor, Mangaluru on August 5.

Srividya B, lecturer in commerce, Besant Evening College, Mangaluru, who was the resource person, highlighted the importance of converting waste into wealth as a means of promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment. She explained how discarded coconut shells can be transformed into attractive and useful products with creativity and value addition. She also gave a practical demonstration on making various coconut shell crafts.

The programme was presided over by Dr Geetha M L, principal of Government First Grade College, Kavoor, IQAC coordinator and head of the department of commerce and management Dr Therese Pereira, student welfare officer and coordinator of the Institutions Innovation Council Dr Santhosh Pinto, coordinator of the ECO Club Prameela K, and coordinator of the Commerce & Management Association Jyothi Shetty S were present on the occasion. The programme created awareness among students about the potential of eco-friendly crafts and encouraged them to explore creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship by transforming waste materials into commercially valuable products.

Prathiksha served as the master of ceremony. Magundappa welcomed the gathering, while Rakesh proposed the vote of thanks.
