Mumbai, Jul 29: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide on Wednesday directed civic officials to intensify garbage collection at vulnerable dumping spots, strengthen waste management in slum areas and ensure sweeping of major roads before the start of traffic to improve cleanliness across the city.

During an early morning inspection of Mankhurd, Govandi and Parel, Bhide reviewed sanitation, waste collection and road maintenance works. She instructed officials to adopt area-specific sanitation strategies based on local population, waste generation and geographical conditions.

The commissioner emphasised the need for timely garbage collection, better upkeep of public spaces and efficient waste disposal systems, particularly in densely populated localities. She also stressed that road sweeping should be completed before peak traffic hours to minimise inconvenience to commuters while maintaining cleanliness.

Bhide directed officials to closely monitor sanitation operations and ensure prompt action at garbage-prone locations to prevent waste accumulation and improve overall civic hygiene.

The inspection forms part of the BMC's ongoing efforts to strengthen sanitation measures and enhance cleanliness standards across Mumbai.
