Mumbai, Jul 26: The Indian Education Society (IES), one of Maharashtra's oldest and most respected educational institutions with a glorious legacy of 108 years, has achieved a significant milestone with the Government of Maharashtra granting permission to establish the IES Skill Tech University, Mumbai.
Tomark this historic occasion, the Bhoomi Pujan for the construction of the 12-storey Manik Lotlikar Education Tower was performed on Ashadh Shuddha Dwadashi (Sunday, July 26) at the proposed university campus, opposite Lilavati Hospital, Bandra (West), Mumbai.






The ceremony was attended by members of the IES Governing Council, trustees, educationists, alumni, well-wishers, architects, consultants, and other distinguished guests.
Founded in 1918, the Indian Education Society today manages more than 50 schools and four colleges across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, imparting quality education to thousands of students every year. The establishment of IES Skill Tech University marks the beginning of a new chapter in the institution's journey towards excellence in higher education.
The proposed university will focus on skill-based, industry-oriented, multidisciplinary education, integrating emerging technologies, innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and global best practices. It aims to prepare students for future careers while contributing to India's vision of becoming a global knowledge and skill hub.
Speaking on the occasion, the IES leadership expressed gratitude to the Government of Maharashtra for its support and confidence in the institution. They reaffirmed IES's commitment to providing world-class education rooted in values, innovation, and social responsibility.
The Manik Lotlikar Education Tower, named in honour of the late Manik Lotlikar for his invaluable contribution to IES, will serve as the academic hub of the new university and provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for teaching, research, innovation, and skill development.
The foundation ceremony marks the beginning of an ambitious project that will strengthen Maharashtra's educational ecosystem and create new opportunities for students, industry, and society.
