Mangaluru, Jul 25: The management of Lourdes Central School, Bejai, a prestigious school in the city held a meeting for all private van, mini-bus, Tempo Traveller, and auto-rickshaw drivers who transport students to the school. The meeting took place on July 23 in the school conference room.
The meeting was presided over by Fr Stany Pereira, the manager of Lourdes Central School. Fr Johnson Lawrence Sequeira, the school principal, spearheaded the proceedings. Vijayaraj, sub-inspector of the Traffic Police (East Division), attended as the resource person. Rohan Sequeira, who oversees school vehicle operations, coordinated the event.
Addressing the gathering, Vijayaraj provided the assembled drivers with information regarding traffic rules. He emphasized the need to prioritize child safety specifically for those aged from birth up to 18 years and urged everyone to pay special attention to the safety of girls.
Addressing the audience, he drew the drivers' attention to issues such as mobile phone usage while driving, vehicles carrying more children than permitted, and the mandatory documents specifically insurance and emission certificates that must be kept in the vehicle; they also provided information regarding legal actions, traffic rule violations, and their far-reaching consequences
School correspondent and manager Fr Stany Pereira expressed his views and aspirations at the meeting regarding driving responsibly to ensure children's safety, adhering to traffic laws, and addressing drivers' welfare and concerns.
Addressing the assembled drivers, school principal Johnson L Sequeira commended the services they render for the school's progress and appreciated the responsible care they exercise regarding the children's safety within the school premises.
Subsequently, the drivers and owners met and were given the opportunity to present their requests to the school management; the management listened to these requests and expressed its own views.
The school management extended their greetings to all the private vehicle drivers and owners who attended the meeting and arranged light refreshments for them. The meeting concluded with a prayer.
