Mangaluru, Jul 22: The NSS, Youth Red Cross (YRC), and NCC Wings of St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre, Attavar, Mangaluru, and Rotary Club, Baikampady, organized a blood donation camp on July 22 at A4 Hall, Avila Block, St. Agnes College.
The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome to the gathering. The event was efficiently emceed by Saanvi, a second-year B.Sc. student, who ensured the smooth flow of the programme.
Dr Deepa Adiga from Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre, Attavar, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation, its life-saving impact, and the need to dispel common misconceptions associated with blood donation. Her informative session motivated students and staff to come forward and contribute to this noble cause.
The principal, Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C., addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of the NSS, YRC, and NCC Wings in organizing the camp. She highlighted the importance of social responsibility and encouraged students to actively participate in humanitarian activities that benefit society.
The programme was further graced by the presence of Kashyap Prabhu, president, Rotary Club, Baikampady, who addressed the gathering and spoke about Rotary's commitment to community service and its continued support for life-saving initiatives such as blood donation. Raj Shetty, secretary, Rotary Club, Baikampady, along with other members of the Rotary Club, was also present on the occasion.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching and non-teaching staff. With the support of the medical team from Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre, Attavar, all medical screening and safety protocols were strictly followed throughout the camp. A total of 110 units of blood were collected during the camp, reflecting the generous response and humanitarian spirit of the donors.
The programme was successfully coordinated under the guidance of the NSS Programme Officers, Dr Udaya Kumar B and Preetha Tauro; YRC programme officer, Nimitha K; and associate NCC officers, Lt Gayathri B K and Dr Hithakshi. The active involvement of faculty members and dedicated student volunteers contributed significantly to the smooth conduct and success of the programme.
The blood donation camp concluded on a meaningful note, reinforcing the message that every unit of blood donated has the potential to save lives. The programme served as an inspiring reminder of the importance of voluntary blood donation and strengthened the spirit of compassion, social responsibility, and community service among the students and staff.
