Thane, Jul 16: Police have registered a case against a woman from Thane for allegedly honey-trapping a 53-year-old retired Army major and extorting Rs 20 lakh by threatening to implicate him in false criminal cases.

The case was registered at Kapurbawdi Police Station based on a complaint filed by the retired officer, a doctor currently residing in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. The complainant alleged that he was blackmailed by the accused for nearly two years, from April 2024 to May 2026.

According to police, the woman, a resident of Balkum Pada in Thane, allegedly collected photographs, videos and phone recordings of the complainant and used them to threaten him.

Investigators said the accused allegedly warned the retired Army officer that she would file false criminal cases against him if he failed to meet her financial demands.

Police alleged that the material collected by the woman was used as part of a planned attempt to intimidate and pressure the complainant into making payments.

The complainant further alleged that the accused had filed a rape case against him, claiming that he had made a false promise of marriage. Following the case, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

According to the complaint, while he was in custody, the accused allegedly obtained Rs 20 lakh from one of his relatives. The woman later allegedly demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh, the complainant claimed.

During the preliminary probe, police said the accused allegedly consulted lawyers in Bhilwara and Thane as part of a conspiracy to extort money. Investigators are examining the sequence of events and the evidence submitted by both sides.

A case has been registered against the woman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 318(4) for cheating, Section 308(2) for extortion, Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation and Section 248(b) for making a false charge with intent to cause injury.

Police said no arrest has been made so far and further investigation is underway to verify the allegations and collect additional evidence.
