Mumbai, July 15: The body of a newborn infant was discovered inside a restroom near the outpatient department (OPD) of Mumbai's civic-run Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle, triggering a police investigation.
The incident came to light on Monday evening when a woman visiting the hospital entered the restroom and noticed the arm of an infant protruding from the toilet bowl. She immediately informed hospital authorities, following which security personnel and medical staff reached the spot.

Police from Juhu Police Station were alerted and subsequently launched an investigation into the case. Officers have collected CCTV footage from different parts of the hospital premises to identify the person responsible for abandoning the newborn.
Investigators are also questioning hospital employees and reviewing the movement of patients, visitors and staff in and around the OPD area to trace anyone whose activities appeared suspicious around the time of the incident.
Police said efforts are underway to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine how the infant's body came to be found in the hospital restroom. Further investigation is in progress.
