Mangaluru, Jul 11: A total of 136 persons have gone missing within the limits of the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate during the first six months of 2026, from January to June 30. Of them, 106 have been traced, while 30 remain unaccounted for.
Among the 64 men reported missing, 44 have been traced, while 20 are yet to be found. Of the 44 women reported missing, 38 have been traced and six remain untraced. All five missing boys have been found, while of the 23 missing girls, 19 have been traced and four are still missing.

Police investigations and data from registered cases indicate that the primary reasons behind the disappearances include love affairs, immaturity, employment-related issues, extra-marital affairs, family disputes, mental stress, financial problems, sexual exploitation, and health-related issues.
Police officials said that a significant number of those reported missing, particularly women, are from districts outside Dakshina Kannada. Many of them had come to Mangaluru for construction work, domestic work, masonry, or other employment. Senior officers said that social media connections and extra-marital relationships have emerged as major factors contributing to the disappearance of these women.
Police also cited an example highlighting the role of extra-marital relationships in missing person cases. In one instance, a woman lodged a complaint at Bajpe Police Station stating that her husband had gone missing. Around the same time, another man filed a complaint at Pandeshwar Police Station reporting that his wife was missing. During the investigation, police discovered that the missing man from the Bajpe police station limits and the missing woman from the Pandeshwar police station limits were involved in an extra-marital relationship. Police said such cases of extra-marital affairs are increasing and are becoming one of the reasons behind missing person cases.
The missing persons statistics for the first six months of 2026 show that 64 men were reported missing, of whom 44 have been traced while 20 remain untraced. Among women, 44 were reported missing, with 38 traced and six still missing. All five boys who were reported missing have been traced. Of the 23 girls reported missing, 19 have been traced, while four are yet to be found. Overall, 136 missing person cases were registered during the six-month period, of which 106 persons have been traced, while 30 remain unaccounted for.
